Jesse Nelson Alexander, Jr. was born 19 August 1928 in Somerset, Kentucky. Alexander grew up and was educated in Louisville, Kentucky, graduating from Central High School and earning his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Louisville Municipal College.
